MINDFUL is a research interest group reuniting researchers from different fields and Universities to exchange knowledge on computational methods for mental health and well-being.

Particularly, the topics of interest to the research group are:

  • Computational models and statistical methods for early detection of mental health issues.
  • Computational tools for continuous and longitudinal monitoring.
  • Computational models for personalized and adaptive interventions.
  • Computational models and statistical approaches for disease risk stratification and prognosis.
  • Computational models for multimodal data analysis.
  • Computational models for emotion recognition and affective computing.
  • Digital phenotyping for mental health and well-being.
  • Explainable and interpretable computational models for mental health applications.
  • Bias, fairness, and equity in AI and statistical modeling for mental health and well-being.
  • Privacy-preserving and secure AI methods for sensitive mental health data.
  • Ethical, legal, and societal implications of computational mental health technologies.
  • Integration and validation of computational methods in real-world clinical settings.

The group is led by the MMSP laboratory and comprises the following members (alphabetical order):

  • Politecnico di Milano
    • Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering: Anna Maria Bianchi.
  • University of Milano-Bicocca
    • Department of Informatics, Systems and Communication: Davide Chicco, Marco Cremaschi, Francesca Gasparini, Alessandra Grossi, Sara Nocco, Claudia Rabaioli, Alessandro Raganato, Giulia Rizzi, Aurora Saibene, Fabio Stella, and Marco Viviani.
    • Department of Psychology: Rossana Actis-Grosso and Leonor Josefina Romero-Lauro.
    • School of Medicine and Surgery: Cristina Crocamo.
  • Università Statale di Milano
    • Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences "L. Sacco": Silvia Casarotto.
    • Department of Computer Science: Nunzio Alberto Borghese.
    • Department of Pathophysiology and Transplantation: Paolo Brambilla.

The MMSP laboratory organizes the "Milan Workshop on Computational Methods for Mental Health and Well-Being" since 2024 to reunite the MINDFUL group members and open the doors to young researchers to present their cutting edge work and projects on the workshop topics.

Moreover, the MINDFUL group members are currently organizing a Webinar series:

  • In occasion of the World Parkinson's Day (11 April), Chiara Capra will give us a talk entitled "Medical devices to monitor Parkinson's: is the healthcare ecosystem ready for adoption?" on April 9th, 2026 starting 9:00 AM (CEST).
More information are available in the dedicated news.
