BIOGRAPHY

Alessandra Grossi is a PhD student in Computer Science whose research project focuses on defining computational models able to recognise mental disorders from speech.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in 2016 and her Master’s degree in Computer Science in November 2020. For her Master’s thesis, she analysed and processed physiological signals from different age groups, including young and older adults, in various situations.

In 2021, she continued her thesis analysis of physiological signals within the Logevicity project.
In 2022, as part of the AMPEL project, she conducted research into Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) to identify the emotional state of older adults from audio recordings of telephone conversations.
From 2023 to 2025, she was involved in the PNRR project Age-it, Ageing Well in an Ageing Society at the University of Milano-Bicocca, where she held the position of research fellow.

Her main research interests include analysing speech to recognise emotion or mental disorder, and studying physiological signals such as PPG (photoplethysmography), GSR (galvanic skin response) and EMG (electromyography).
